The Client

1st Place Spiritwear provides on-demand school spirit wear using a school’s colors, name, and mascots. The website contains an online spirit wear shop for nearly every school in the nation.

The Need

1st Place Spiritwear wanted to quickly compete head-to-head with major competitors in their space, many of whom have been in business for ten years or more. The website was brand new with no existing traffic.

The Action

The strategy involved multiple facets, including targeting high volume keywords nationally (i.e. School Spirit Wear), and hundreds of long-tail keywords on a local level (i.e. West Clermont Ohio Spirit Wear). We were able to build authority by acquiring backlinks from many schools and district websites as well as scholarship boards and niche local media sites. We implemented best practices for the site’s core pages including key elements on all location pages (over 100,000 school pages). We also implemented a content strategy to support key initiatives and locations.

The Results

In eight months, 1stPlaceSpiritwear.com began reaching more than 20,000 people per day on Google alone (organic search impressions according to Google Search Console Data), leading to a significant increase in site visitors, transitions, and customers.
